More Plants And Paint

A few days ago I got some more plants from Anawalt. My wall was getting too full of succulents and I like to watch plants grow and most succulents just do not. After one of mine kicked the bucket I had three open spaces on my wall and filled them with two neon pathos and one called schefflera variegata. I love the way they look and they really make my wall stand out more.

Terrarium Time

Guess who got another hobby? Yeah. This guy. I made my first actual terrarium at my friends library a couple weeks back and have wanted to make more since. I tried to get activated charcoal last week but Home Depot lies about what is in stock. I ended up ordering it on Amazon and got a bag for about six bucks. This morning I went to Anawalt and was able to get rocks, sand, cactus soil, and five plants for less than $30. This is a cheap hobby which I am all for. I also saw that they have the charcoal there.

3D Totoro Perler Bead

I made this standing Totoro Perler bead the other day based off of sprite online. I have made Totoro once before but I like this weird little standing one staring at me from across the room.

3D Super Mario 3 Perler Bead

This was fun. I have been making these so much lately because it isn't as stressful as it was before. I was burning myself, putting them on crooked. Now I know to make pre-holes in the base and an extra layer of beads at the bottom of each design.

Anton Chigurh Perler Bead

I decided to make this Perler design of Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men. It came out big. I kept resizing the image until it was not bigger than my damn peg board.

3D Perler Beads And More

Over the past few days I made these 3D Perler bead designs. I make these way faster than I used to. I used to have such a problem getting these things to stand up and not flop over or just to connect properly. Now its easy and fun to make. I'm sure I'll make some more this week. I also made a random turtle shell.

Terrarium Time

I went to the library where they were having an event where we were shown one of the many ways to make a terrarium. By the way, be prepared to see more of these because this was so fun and easy to make. And, yes. I said this was at the library. Libraries have a ton of great events. I missed a plant swap a few days before this event.

Plants And Lack Of Inspriation

I bought a fern from Trader Joe's a few days ago for a few dollars. I love how healthy it looks and hope that I can keep it living long. I have not had luck with these things and I think its mostly from drowning them in the past.

Sagat Perler Bead

Last night I made this gigantic Sagat with Perler beads. I have made him a few times. One of the first designs I ever did and thought "This took so long and I'll never be able to make anything bigger or cooler!"

Fast forward years later and here I am putting together this monster. I love the way it came out and will be putting it in my hallway later. Not sure what I am gonna work on next but I know I need some more sand colored beads after this.

Plants And Perlers

Last week I finally put my Streets Of Rage 2 Perler beads on the wall. The original idea was to make a big mural of some sort until I realized how big that would actually have to be and abandoned that idea. I also put an old Terminator design on an acrylic pouring that was just laying around. I also finally separated two of my plants that were growing in one pot when I first got them. They are both doing fine. But I am not. I have been miserable.

Random Perler Beads

I made some random Perler beads over the last few weeks. I have some random colors left and like zero white beads so my choices are super limited in what I can make.

Tupac Perler Bead

I did this Tupac Perler bead randomly. I don't know who originally made it since there are so many. I had to change some colors because I am running low on the most basic of colors.

Getting Carried Away

You know how hard I am struggling to not head to the Hollywood Farmers Market to get some more plants to turn into kokedama? I made some more today and plan to make a few more tomorrow. I love these weird ass things and need to start giving them as gifts before my place is overrun. I have started hanging them on my wall.

Making My Own Kokedama

A few months ago my friend gave me a plant that was wrapped in a kokedama. I had not seen one of these before and the damn thing blew my mind. I went to Anawalt this morning to get some moss and dirt for it as well as making a sad attempt at a terrarium. I'm gonna have to wait till next month when I go to the library and learn how to make one of those properly. But the kokedama was relatively easy. I changed up the technique a bit since I found like three or four ways to do it online and made one.

I liked the way it came out so I made another and thought about heading out to get some twine. Then I remembered that I have a bunch of twine hangers and that I could just unravel them. I did that and made the second one.

People make these to hang and do all kinda stuff. Mine are sitting in the kitchen for now chilling until I figure out how I am gonna display them somewhere else. I like the way these look and hope to get better at it as time goes on.

I made a few more this morning. I really want to get better at twine. Hoping that the succulent will do well in the kokedama.

Random Perler Beads

Here are some of the random designs I made over the last few days. I plan on making some other designs soon. Just want to do some more music, painting, and writing first. I took the Space Invaders I made a while back and put magnets on the back. Oh, I will add one more painting I did recently covering a previous design that did not come out the way I wanted.

Strange Acrylic Painting

I did this earlier today using a canvas that had a tear in it. I ended up using two blues, pink, yellow, red, black, and I forget what else. I wasn't trying too hard because of the rip in the canvas and just wanting to experiment. This damn thing turned out pretty cool looking! Also I hung up some pictures in the kitchen using my new camera. I love my new camera.

Using Cheap Paint For Acrylic Pouring

Last week my best friend and I went to Michael's and I bought some cheap Craft Smart brand paint. It is less than half the price of the other paint I was buying but bigger. I also got canvas on sale. I never get enough materials and ended up buying Floetrol from Home Depot which costs way less than ordering it online. I love this paint and the Floetrol more than the far more expensive stuff. I have some ideas for the next projects I end up doing.

More Plants For My Jungle Apartment

Cam gave me some Mother Of A Thousand plants and the first she gave me is triple its size in less than a month. The smaller ones are doing well too. I also got a tropical plant. I had this one a few weeks ago and did everything wrong. Not enough water and too much sun. I also got a weird ass succulent from Trader Joe's. Their plants are very good if you know what you are doing. I used to drown the poor things. I also got a rubber plant from the farmers market in Hollywood.

Ernie Barnes: A Retrospective

Yesterday me and my best friend Cam went to check out the Ernie Barnes exhibit over at the CAAM. Seeing his art in person made me want to paint. I was also surprised by how large most of them were. I just stood there staring at his art wondering what it is like to create art the way he does and look at the world through his eyes. His most well known painting is The Sugar Shack but there were dozens more that were equally impressive. This exhibit had bad advertising. I had no idea it had been there since May and thankfully got to see this in person since tomorrow is its last day.

For many fans of 1970s American television, Ernie Barnes’ (1938–2009) painting The Sugar Shack is no doubt instantly familiar. The 1976 work depicting a dance scene—which was the cover art for Marvin Gaye’s album I Want You—achieved cult status by regularly appearing on the hit sitcom Good Times, inspiring a community of television viewers who discussed it after each episode.

Forcing Myself To Draw 6

On my lunch breaks at work I was reading books and decided that I should probably spend that time making something instead of consuming. I did these three drawings over the last week or so. I realized that I need to keep drawing so I can get better at it as well as make some new characters.

Rainbow Abobo Head Perler Beads

Did these weird little Perler bead Abobo heads from Double Dragon. I planned to make one. Then maybe three. Then I figured why not just keep going? It a Rainbobo.

Acrylic/Perler Basquiat

A few days ago I went with my best friend to Michael's and they had an acrylic paint sale happening as well as canvas so you know I got a bunch of them. I put the Basquiat Perler bead onto one I did. I made four but two are still drying right now and I will post them tomorrow. The thinning solution for the paint double the paint and makes it so much easier to pour its not even funny.

Here are some more!

The Apartment Jungle Grows

I am rocking so many plants in my place right now. One of the best things about it is that I am now at a point to where I can propagate them and give them as gifts for folks. Last week I received some plant hangers that I ordered which gave me both the ability to decorate my walls as well as clear off my big ass shelf.

Basquiat Perler Bead

I made this Basquiat photo based off of an original version that was done in tile. I like the way it came out as it looks better the further you are from it.
